Decks in Vancouver
When doing decks in Vancouver it’s critical that they are properly protecting from the elements while they are exposed. This picture above is a deck we did in White Rock, while it was exposed there was 80 kmh gusts of winds and some heavy rainfall. The tarping technique ensured that this Vancouver deck remained dry.
As you can see that while doing decks in Vancouver as much thought needs to be put into protecting the house as repairing the deck. This tarp is protecting two floors of decks. Our carpenters are so adept at tarping in areas I sometimes refer to them as “Tarpenters”.
Rot Repair on Vancouver Deck
Here you can see that the post is totally rotted, it was holding up a large section of the roof. By the look of the post it quite well could have failed with a heavy snow load. The repair was actually a little bit involved, not only was the post rotted but the beam it was supported was also severely rotted. We temporarily supported the roof and replaced both structural members.
Here you can see the deck in Vancouver with the beam and post repair completed. We used a pressure treated built up beam and a 6″x6″ post that was specially treated with a Borate solution. After this we were able to re slope the deck to the drains and were ready to install the vinyl decking.
Now that the plywood is all installed this deck Vancouver is ready for vinyl. As a last check we use a bag full of marbles to ensure that we properly sloped it to the drains. The end result is a deck that drains perfectly and has no large puddles on it.
Here the Vancouver Deck is finished with a 66 mil vinyl decking called “Brownstone” and has a new cap flashing and topless glass railing in order to take full advantage of the view.
