This deck had large stone pillars on the acting as railings, it gave the deck a very top heavy look. By removing these pillars and installing new aluminum railings we opened up the deck and brought it back to a pleasing proportion. These railings have a 6 mil glass infill that is tempered. When we removed the stone pillars we needed to redo the deck membrane, the owners choose a vinyl decking called brownstone by Tuffdek. The glass railings are powder coated a rideau brown color that goes well with the cultured stone and trim colors around the windows and door. Deck railings not only have to be attractive but they also serve a very important purpose of keeping your family safe while enjoying the deck. All of our aluminum railings are attached with stainless steel # 14 screws and we install solid backing below the deck surface. This insures that our screws are fully hitting solid wood and makes our railings extremely rigid and safe.
These deck railings have a combination of a clear cedar top rail and 3″x3″ aluminum posts with aluminum picket panel infills. This style of deck railings components the cedar decking, but gives the benefits of low maintenance aluminum railings. We designed it so that when the top rails need to be re-stained we can simply remove three screws and the top rail comes of so that it can be simply sanded and stained. Then we re-attach the top rail by simply putting the three screws back into it. For this particular project we actually made two sets of cedar top rails so that the homeowner always has another set of top rails.
